The Neighborhood

"The Neighborhood"
 5x7.5 oil on canvas
Carol Horzempa

Here in Wisconsin it's been so cold all week that I can walk on top of the snow without sinking in. Since I have been getting cabin fever lately I decided to paint the neighborhood with it's hard crusty snow piled up everywhere. This is the view I see from my back door.

  1. You have taken the cold nasty weather and made something incredible beautiful out of it. Love the colors and textures.

  2. Brrrr.... I am so envious of painters being able to paint snow. What a lovely way to memorialize a January day in Wisconsin!

  3. This is excellent, Carol. I love the feel of "used" snow that you were able to emulate here. I second Sheila's "Brrrr", and appreciate desert living a little more... -Don

  4. Love it! You really got the look of the old snow we have around here. I hope we get some new snow soon!

  5. Hi Carol. My first winter in Wisconsin years ago, I remember looking out the window and snow was still on the ground late April. Your painting took me back to that memory. A great painting.

  6. Hi Carol
Thanks for stopping by my blog! You have really captured that feel of hard crusted snow. when its this cold outside the snow almost "squeaks" when walking. I like the composition with the porch as a dominant feature, and then the eye travels around the rest of the picture.

  7. Wow Carol, you did a wonderful job of portraying the cold and snow! I think the car on the right is ready to drive out of the cold...just as soon as the snow melts!

  8. Even though I am here in Texas, when I look at your painting I feel the cold. I remember when I lived in Michigan and went out to walk in the snow there was the sound of crunch, crunch. Your snow looks as though it would crunch, too. Great job!

  11. Love the pops of red and color in all of that snow. And you handled the snow so perfectly. It looks cold and wet!
